“Medicine was a path I wanted to pursue from my earliest memories. Advancing through school and into my residency, I found myself drawn more and more to the role of family practitioner. There are higher-profile and higher-paying fields to pursue, but a family practitioner has the most amazing opportunity to truly touch the community where they live and work. This driving motivation pushed me into family practice.

“I love the simple fact that every day is different. I know my patients and clients, but I don’t always know what the day will bring. Even the simplest appointment can become a counseling session, a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen. It is being more than just a ‘doctor’ to my patients. It’s being a trusted friend and advisor. I am casual and flexible. My patients are as different as the reasons they come to see me. One size does not fit all. It is imperative that I am the person my patients need me to be for them each day. My personal philosophy is to treat people the way I want to be treated.

“My hope is to provide my patients with both the medical solution and personal attention they need each time they visit. As part of my community, I feel that giving and having a personal connection with my patients allows them to open up and share – and that is vitally important to me.”

Dr. Ayo enjoys reading. The most recent book that she really enjoyed is called The Geography of Bliss. Being from New Orleans, she still has a love of good food. She derives happiness from cooking for her family and bringing traditions like crawfish boils to Knoxville. Then there are all of her sons’ activities that she enjoys so much – soccer, skateboarding, biking, hockey and Boy Scouts – just to name a few.
